Bichon Frise Mix    Age: Adult

OTTO Courtesy Post for Tails Is Up Foundation PLEASE CONTACT THEM Located in Upland, California. Email ksax@earthlink.net for a prompt response and/or call 909-559-5152 for more information and to receive an adoption application. Our donation for Otto is $275.00 Meet Otto, our so sweet Bichon Frise-mix. He is about 6 years old and 13.5 lbs. He *loves* adventures and is the first one at the door once you grab your keys. He is crazy about going on a walk and absolutely must say 'hello' to all the dogs and people on the walk-and he has a heart-breaking/heart-warming story. He truly is one of the most forgiving, loving, and kind dogs we ... (Read More)have ever rescued, which is a miracle after seeing how some humans treated him. Otto was a street dog. He had been severely neglected for a long time-and then hit by a car and run over and left on the street to die. He somehow managed to pull himself onto someone's lawn and into the shade. He was seen like this for two days. Once we heard about him we were off to rescue him. You can see how we found him. Miraculously, he was not skittish or scared of us, nor did he try to bite. When we picked him up he screamed in pain. We cannot imagine the misery he in. He was also badly matted with innumerable foxtails and stickers imbedded in every inch of his body. It was hard to tell where his body parts were, yet he was giving kisses and tail wags when we talked to him. We immediately took him to the vet where they quickly found he was quite anemic. His entire backend, sides and even underneath near his genital area were severely bruised and swollen from the hit. His left hip was shattered in multiple places and the right hip was fractured and had a break just below the hip ball socket. They also found that one of his vertebrae by the sacrum was fractured, but thankfully it was an inch away from the nerve to cause permanent damage. Amputation on his left side was not an option because the right side was broken also. At the vet, he never stopped finding it in him to wag his tail and love everyone he met. Because many wonderful people came together and donated towards his $5,000+ medical care he got a new chance at life. Now all he need is his forever home. He was fostered after surgery, got the post-op care he needed and has thrived. As the surgeon predicted, his muscles took over the bone that attaches to the hip to make him stable so he could walk again. He will always have a limp, be a bit wobbly, and cannot jump up-but he is able to walk and run without pain. We knew from day-1 he is a little survivor and was not meant to die. He is now neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and had a dental cleaning. Mr. Adventure is always eager to go for walks and go wherever you are headed. He plays with toys, loves to be held, sleep with you, and be on your lap. Because he *loves* adventures so much, he would do best in a home where he will be walked at least twice a day and will go with his new family everywhere possible. He is just one awesome dog with a phenomenal will to live. He has not lived with cats, but he has wanted to meet them on walks. He has done wonderful with the children he meets on walks. He will need regular grooming. Located in Upland, California. Email ksax@earthlink.net for a prompt response and/or call 909-559-5152 for more information and to receive an adoption application. Our donation for Otto is $500.00 Internal Notes (Less)
